# Translation Ayah
1 When the Terror descends إِذَا وَقَعَتِ الْوَاقِعَةُ
2 (and none denies its descending) لَيْسَ لِوَقْعَتِهَا كَاذِبَةٌ
3 abasing, exalting, خَافِضَةٌ رَّافِعَةٌ
4 when the earth shall be rocked إِذَا رُجَّتِ الْأَرْضُ رَجًّا
5 and the mountains crumbled وَبُسَّتِ الْجِبَالُ بَسًّا
6 and become a dust, scattered, فَكَانَتْ هَبَاء مُّنبَثًّا
7 and you shall be three bands -- وَكُنتُمْ أَزْوَاجًا ثَلَاثَةً
8 Companions of the Right (O Companions of the Right!) فَأَصْحَابُ الْمَيْمَنَةِ مَا أَصْحَابُ الْمَيْمَنَةِ
9 Companions of the Left (O Companions of the Left!) وَأَصْحَابُ الْمَشْأَمَةِ مَا أَصْحَابُ الْمَشْأَمَةِ
10 and the Outstrippers: the Outstrippers وَالسَّابِقُونَ السَّابِقُونَ
11 those are they brought nigh the Throne, أُوْلَئِكَ الْمُقَرَّبُونَ
12 in the Gardens of Delight فِي جَنَّاتِ النَّعِيمِ
13 (a throng of the ancients ثُلَّةٌ مِّنَ الْأَوَّلِينَ
14 and how few of the later folk) وَقَلِيلٌ مِّنَ الْآخِرِينَ
15 upon close-wrought couches عَلَى سُرُرٍ مَّوْضُونَةٍ
16 reclining upon them, set face to face, مُتَّكِئِينَ عَلَيْهَا مُتَقَابِلِينَ
17 immortal youths going round about them يَطُوفُ عَلَيْهِمْ وِلْدَانٌ مُّخَلَّدُونَ
18 with goblets, and ewers, and a cup from a spring بِأَكْوَابٍ وَأَبَارِيقَ وَكَأْسٍ مِّن مَّعِينٍ
19 (no brows throbbing, no intoxication) لَا يُصَدَّعُونَ عَنْهَا وَلَا يُنزِفُونَ
20 and such fruits as they shall choose, وَفَاكِهَةٍ مِّمَّا يَتَخَيَّرُونَ
21 and such flesh of fowl as they desire, وَلَحْمِ طَيْرٍ مِّمَّا يَشْتَهُونَ
22 and wide-eyed houris وَحُورٌ عِينٌ
23 as the likeness of hidden pearls, كَأَمْثَالِ اللُّؤْلُؤِ الْمَكْنُونِ
24 a recompense for that they laboured. جَزَاء بِمَا كَانُوا يَعْمَلُونَ
25 Therein they shall hear no idle talk, no cause of sin, لَا يَسْمَعُونَ فِيهَا لَغْوًا وَلَا تَأْثِيمًا
26 only the saying 'Peace, Peace!' إِلَّا قِيلًا سَلَامًا سَلَامًا
27 The Companions of the Right (O Companions of the Right!) وَأَصْحَابُ الْيَمِينِ مَا أَصْحَابُ الْيَمِينِ
28 mid thornless lote-trees فِي سِدْرٍ مَّخْضُودٍ
29 and serried acacias, وَطَلْحٍ مَّنضُودٍ
30 and spreading shade وَظِلٍّ مَّمْدُودٍ
31 and outpoured waters, وَمَاء مَّسْكُوبٍ
32 and fruits abounding وَفَاكِهَةٍ كَثِيرَةٍ
33 unfailing, unforbidden, لَّا مَقْطُوعَةٍ وَلَا مَمْنُوعَةٍ
34 and upraised couches. وَفُرُشٍ مَّرْفُوعَةٍ
35 Perfectly We formed them, perfect, إِنَّا أَنشَأْنَاهُنَّ إِنشَاء
36 and We made them spotless virgins, فَجَعَلْنَاهُنَّ أَبْكَارًا
37 chastely amorous, عُرُبًا أَتْرَابًا
38 like of age for the Companions of the Right. لِّأَصْحَابِ الْيَمِينِ
39 A throng of the ancients ثُلَّةٌ مِّنَ الْأَوَّلِينَ
40 and a throng of the later folk. وَثُلَّةٌ مِّنَ الْآخِرِينَ
41 The Companions of the Left (O Companions of the Left!) وَأَصْحَابُ الشِّمَالِ مَا أَصْحَابُ الشِّمَالِ
42 mid burning winds and boiling waters فِي سَمُومٍ وَحَمِيمٍ
43 and the shadow of a smoking blaze وَظِلٍّ مِّن يَحْمُومٍ
44 neither cool, neither goodly; لَّا بَارِدٍ وَلَا كَرِيمٍ
45 and before that they lived at ease, إِنَّهُمْ كَانُوا قَبْلَ ذَلِكَ مُتْرَفِينَ
46 and persisted in the Great Sin, وَكَانُوا يُصِرُّونَ عَلَى الْحِنثِ الْعَظِيمِ
47 ever saying, 'What, when we are dead and become dust and bones, shall we indeed be raised up? وَكَانُوا يَقُولُونَ أَئِذَا مِتْنَا وَكُنَّا تُرَابًا وَعِظَامًا أَئِنَّا لَمَبْعُوثُونَ
48 What, and our fathers, the ancients?' أَوَ آبَاؤُنَا الْأَوَّلُونَ
49 Say: 'The ancients, and the later folk قُلْ إِنَّ الْأَوَّلِينَ وَالْآخِرِينَ
50 shall be gathered to the appointed time of a known day. لَمَجْمُوعُونَ إِلَى مِيقَاتِ يَوْمٍ مَّعْلُومٍ
51 Then you erring ones, you that cried lies, ثُمَّ إِنَّكُمْ أَيُّهَا الضَّالُّونَ الْمُكَذِّبُونَ
52 you shall eat of a tree called Zakkoum, لَآكِلُونَ مِن شَجَرٍ مِّن زَقُّومٍ
53 and you shall fill therewith your bellies فَمَالِؤُونَ مِنْهَا الْبُطُونَ
54 and drink on top of that boiling water فَشَارِبُونَ عَلَيْهِ مِنَ الْحَمِيمِ
55 lapping it down like thirsty camels.' فَشَارِبُونَ شُرْبَ الْهِيمِ
56 This shall be their hospitality on the Day of Doom. هَذَا نُزُلُهُمْ يَوْمَ الدِّينِ
57 We created you; therefore why will you not believe? نَحْنُ خَلَقْنَاكُمْ فَلَوْلَا تُصَدِّقُونَ
58 Have you considered the seed you spill? أَفَرَأَيْتُم مَّا تُمْنُونَ
59 Do you yourselves create it, or are We the Creators? أَأَنتُمْ تَخْلُقُونَهُ أَمْ نَحْنُ الْخَالِقُونَ
60 We have decreed among you Death; We shall not be outstripped; نَحْنُ قَدَّرْنَا بَيْنَكُمُ الْمَوْتَ وَمَا نَحْنُ بِمَسْبُوقِينَ
61 that We may exchange the likes of you, and make you to grow again in a fashion you know not. عَلَى أَن نُّبَدِّلَ أَمْثَالَكُمْ وَنُنشِئَكُمْ فِي مَا لَا تَعْلَمُونَ
62 You have known the first growth; so why will you not remember? وَلَقَدْ عَلِمْتُمُ النَّشْأَةَ الْأُولَى فَلَوْلَا تَذكَّرُونَ
63 Have you considered the soil you till? أَفَرَأَيْتُم مَّا تَحْرُثُونَ
64 Do you yourselves sow it, or are We the Sowers? أَأَنتُمْ تَزْرَعُونَهُ أَمْ نَحْنُ الزَّارِعُونَ
65 Did We will, We would make it broken orts, and you would remain bitterly jesting -- لَوْ نَشَاء لَجَعَلْنَاهُ حُطَامًا فَظَلْتُمْ تَفَكَّهُونَ
66 'We are debt-loaded; إِنَّا لَمُغْرَمُونَ
67 nay, we have been robbed!' بَلْ نَحْنُ مَحْرُومُونَ
68 Have you considered the water you drink? أَفَرَأَيْتُمُ الْمَاء الَّذِي تَشْرَبُونَ
69 Did you send it down from the clouds, or did We send it? أَأَنتُمْ أَنزَلْتُمُوهُ مِنَ الْمُزْنِ أَمْ نَحْنُ الْمُنزِلُونَ
70 Did We will, We would make it bitter; so why are you not thankful? لَوْ نَشَاء جَعَلْنَاهُ أُجَاجًا فَلَوْلَا تَشْكُرُونَ
71 Have you considered the fire you kindle? أَفَرَأَيْتُمُ النَّارَ الَّتِي تُورُونَ
72 Did you make its timber to grow, or did We make it? أَأَنتُمْ أَنشَأْتُمْ شَجَرَتَهَا أَمْ نَحْنُ الْمُنشِؤُونَ
73 We Ourselves made it for a reminder, and a boon to the desert-dwellers. نَحْنُ جَعَلْنَاهَا تَذْكِرَةً وَمَتَاعًا لِّلْمُقْوِينَ
74 Then magnify the Name of thy Lord, the All-mighty. فَسَبِّحْ بِاسْمِ رَبِّكَ الْعَظِيمِ
75 No! I swear by the fallings of the stars فَلَا أُقْسِمُ بِمَوَاقِعِ النُّجُومِ
76 (and that is indeed a mighty oath, did you but know it) وَإِنَّهُ لَقَسَمٌ لَّوْ تَعْلَمُونَ عَظِيمٌ
77 it is surely a noble Koran إِنَّهُ لَقُرْآنٌ كَرِيمٌ
78 in a hidden Book فِي كِتَابٍ مَّكْنُونٍ
79 none but the purified shall touch, لَّا يَمَسُّهُ إِلَّا الْمُطَهَّرُونَ
80 a sending down from the Lord of all Being. تَنزِيلٌ مِّن رَّبِّ الْعَالَمِينَ
81 What, do you hold this discourse in disdain, أَفَبِهَذَا الْحَدِيثِ أَنتُم مُّدْهِنُونَ
82 and do you make it your living to cry lies? وَتَجْعَلُونَ رِزْقَكُمْ أَنَّكُمْ تُكَذِّبُونَ
83 Why, but when the soul leaps to the throat of the dying فَلَوْلَا إِذَا بَلَغَتِ الْحُلْقُومَ
84 and that hour you are watching وَأَنتُمْ حِينَئِذٍ تَنظُرُونَ
85 (And We are nigher him than you, but you do not see Us) وَنَحْنُ أَقْرَبُ إِلَيْهِ مِنكُمْ وَلَكِن لَّا تُبْصِرُونَ
86 why, if you are not at Our disposal, فَلَوْلَا إِن كُنتُمْ غَيْرَ مَدِينِينَ
87 do you not bring back his soul, if you speak truly? تَرْجِعُونَهَا إِن كُنتُمْ صَادِقِينَ
88 Then, if he be of those brought nigh the Throne, فَأَمَّا إِن كَانَ مِنَ الْمُقَرَّبِينَ
89 there shall be repose and ease, and a Garden of Delight; فَرَوْحٌ وَرَيْحَانٌ وَجَنَّةُ نَعِيمٍ
90 and if he be a Companion of the Right: وَأَمَّا إِن كَانَ مِنَ أَصْحَابِ الْيَمِينِ
91 'Peace be upon thee, Companion of the Right!' فَسَلَامٌ لَّكَ مِنْ أَصْحَابِ الْيَمِينِ
92 But if he be of them that cried lies, and went astray, وَأَمَّا إِن كَانَ مِنَ الْمُكَذِّبِينَ الضَّالِّينَ
93 there shall be a hospitality of boiling water فَنُزُلٌ مِّنْ حَمِيمٍ
94 and the roasting in Hell. وَتَصْلِيَةُ جَحِيمٍ
95 Surely this is the truth of certainty. إِنَّ هَذَا لَهُوَ حَقُّ الْيَقِينِ
96 Then magnify the Name of thy Lord, the All-mighty. فَسَبِّحْ بِاسْمِ رَبِّكَ الْعَظِيمِ
